MEDICAL CENTRE

Project Description: This energy efficient medical centre for several medical practitioners and allied health professionals in a residential area of a small town is not visually overpowering. It is made up of smaller elements with domestic size open spaces in between. This approach ensures comfortable acceptance by the community and an easy fit in the existing streetscape.

This building consists of a continuous spine with 3 distinct areas: Area 1 is the core, housing the entry, reception and waiting areas and is modelled inside an existing and renovated weatherboard building. Areas 2 and 3 consist of two new consulting room wings. One wing is for the use of the medical practitioners, including the staffroom and the other wing is for the use of the allied health professionals.

The interior has been designed by Rebecca Berryman, who successfully used a cheerful riot of different windows, doors, used furniture, objects, lights, different textures and wallpapers throughout to remove the clinical and usually intimidating atmosphere of the majority of medical facilities in Australia.
